Nike React is the most complex foam

"Historically, innovations in cushioning have produced major advances in one or maybe two aspects of performance," says Ernest Kim, Nike's Advancement Director, Global Running Footwear. “But with Nike React, we're seeing significant advances in all dimensions of cushioning: impact mitigation, energy return, lightness and durability. That's why we call it our most complete foam ever."
It's rare to find damping that's soft and durable. It's usually one or the other because these qualities are contradictory. But Nike React technology is different. The foam remained strong and soft even after rigorous testing on a device that mimicked the physical forces of long-term use.
Nike came up with a way to make this foam durable without being unnecessarily heavy by combining two polymers — thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
