Hoka is a relatively young French brand that designs and sells running shoes and other equipment for athletes. The company was founded in 2009 in the French city of Annecy by Nicolas Mermoud and Jean-Luc Diard, former employees of Salomon.

Hoka produces the most cushioned shoes for asphalt and trails. Hoka running shoes maintain features such as low weight, special cradle geometry of the midsole and outsole for stability and efficient stride throughout the entire portfolio.
From the very beginning, the company's founders sought to design a running shoe that would allow for fast and comfortable running. After a while, they came up with a model with an extra-high midsole that had more cushioning than any other running shoe at the time. This step started the trend of massive midsoles with extra cushioning that is popular to this day.
The shoes were named after a Maori phrase that loosely translates to flying above the ground. 🪽🚀
