GORE-TEX®

Information

The GORE-TEX® membrane contains 1.4 million microscopic pores per square centimeter, which are approximately 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water and 700 times wider than a water vapor molecule. This ensures that the Gore-Tex® membrane is completely waterproof from the outside and permeable to sweat from the inside. The oil-repellent substances present in the membrane prevent the absorption of body substances.

Shoes with a GORE-TEX® membrane will keep your feet dry and at the right temperature in all weather conditions and provide perfect climate comfort. They are long-lasting waterproof, relatively breathable and protect the foot even in the most difficult conditions.

Details

The company that developed this technology dates back to 1959, when Bill and Genevieve Gore founded it in their home in Newark, Delaware. Their son Bob Gore made a groundbreaking discovery in 1969 that led to the creation of the GORE-TEX® membrane. Seven years later, the first sales of this waterproof, windproof and breathable fabric were made.

And how does it all work?

Every square centimeter of GORE-TEX® membrane contains approximately 1.4 million microscopic pores. Each pore is 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water. This makes the membrane in the original GORE-TEX® line waterproof. There is no chance of rain and snow getting inside.

However, waterproofing is only half, or rather one third, of the functionality of this material - it is also breathable and windproof .

Each of these billions of pores is 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule. This allows for perfect sweat removal and explains the breathability of GORE-TEX® material.

The membrane itself is extremely thin (about 0.01 mm). Therefore, it is necessary to combine the membrane with high-quality textiles. This combination creates a textile with GORE-TEX® technology, which is used for both clothing and footwear.
